Euphorbia attastoma is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia attastoma forms shrubs up to 1.5 meters high. These form clearly upright shoots from the base and do not branch much. The hexagonal shoots are 1 to 2 centimeters thick and initially red in color and later gray-green. The short-lived leaves are 3 to 5 millimeters long and bronze in color.
The inflorescence is formed by simple and almost sedentary cymen . The dark red cyathia are up to 12 millimeters in size. 5 to 7 nectar glands are formed, each with 2 horns. These are about 2 millimeters long and curved inwards. The bluntly lobed fruit is red in color and is up to 4 millimeters in size. It stands on a protruding and bent back handle. The egg-shaped seed has an appendage .
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia attastoma is common in the northeast of Brazil in the state of Minas Gerais .
The species was first described in 1989 by Carlos Toledo Rizzini . The species was separated from Euphorbia phosphorea , but this has not yet been confirmed.
A distinction is made between the following varieties:
- Euphorbia attastoma var. Attastoma
- Euphorbia attastoma var. Xanthochlora Rizzini ; In contrast to the parent species, the young shoots are pink and the horns of the nectar glands are yellow
