Euphorbia aureoviridiflora is a species of the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia aureoviridiflora grows as a small shrub up to 50 centimeters in height. The shoots, which branch out from the base and are often spiral, are pentagonal and up to 2 centimeters thick. The egg-shaped leaves are at the tips of the shoots, are almost sessile and are up to about 3 centimeters long and 2.5 centimeters wide. After the leaves have fallen, broad, elliptical leaf scars remain. The stipules widened at the base are divided into short bristles and fall off.

The inflorescence consists of clustered cymen on the shoots , which are forked one or two times and almost sessile. The upright and yellow to yellow-green cyathophylls, up to 1 centimeter in size, enclose the cyathia, which are up to 2.5 millimeters in diameter, and are covered with very small hairs. The nectar glands are colored bright green.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia aureoviridiflora is endemic to the north of Madagascar near Antsiranana on steep rock faces.

The species was first described in 1970 as a variety of Euphorbia neohumbertii by Werner Rauh . Werner Rauh himself combined it in 1993 to create his own species.
