Euphorbia awashensis is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia awashensis grows with a short underground trunk from which some upright shoots emerge around the tip of the trunk. They are almost round, are up to 30 centimeters long and 7 millimeters thick. The elongated and individually standing thorn shields are up to 7 millimeters in size. The thorns, up to 12 millimeters long, are clearly curved downwards. The stipule spines are up to 2 millimeters long.

The inflorescence is formed from single and simple cymes , which are located on stems about 2 millimeters long. The cyathia are about 3.5 millimeters in size and the elliptical nectar glands are colored yellow. The fruit is almost sedentary and nothing is known about the seeds.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia awashensis is widespread in central Ethiopia on grassy soils of volcanic origin at altitudes of 1000 meters.

The species was first described in 1993 by Michael George Gilbert .
