Venice New Years Concert
The New Year's Concert of Venice ( Italian Concerto di Capodanno di Venezia ) is a traditional concert at the turn of the year that has been held annually since 2004 in the most famous opera house in Venice , the Gran Teatro La Fenice , which was rebuilt in the 2000s . The concerts will be held on January 1st and on several December dates. In contrast to the New Year's Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic , the focus is on Italian music (including Bellini, Donizetti, Leoncavallo, Puccini, Rossini and Verdi). The program consists of an instrumental and an operatic part. The choral work Va, pensiero concludesfrom the third act by Nabucco and the drinking song Libiamo ne 'lieti calici from the first act of La traviata , both operas by Giuseppe Verdi . Rai Cultura and Rai 1 present the New Year's Concert on public radio; Arte has been broadcasting the second part live since 2009 .
