Roberto Abbado (born December 30, 1954 in Milan ) is an Italian conductor .

Live and act

Roberto Abbado is the son of the composer Marcello Abbado and nephew of the conductor Claudio Abbado . He studied at the Conservatories of Pesaro, Milan and Rome, here with Franco Ferrara . He made his debut in 1977 with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia . There he was the only student who was ever allowed to conduct the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia . At 23 he conducted his first opera, Giuseppe Verdi's Simon Boccanegra in Macerata . From 1991 to 1998 he was chief conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra .

He performs worldwide with famous orchestras and soloists, including the Staatskapelle Dresden , the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig , the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra , the Concertgebouw-Orchester Amsterdam , the Orchester National de France , the Orchester de Paris , the Orchestra of La Scala in Milan and numerous important symphony orchestras in America. In 2008 he conducted the Venice New Year's Concert .

As an opera conductor, he has directed numerous new productions, including at La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Bavarian State Opera , the Opéra national de Paris , the Metropolitan Opera New York and at festivals such as the Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro .
