Eva Mei (* 1967 in Fabriano , Italy ) is an Italian opera, lied and concert singer ( soprano ).

Life

Eva Mei studied singing at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence . There she completed her studies in 1989 with a diploma. A year later she won the Caterina Cavalieri Prize at the International Mozart Competition in Vienna for her interpretation of Konstanze from Die Entführung aus dem Serail . With this role the young singer made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in the same year . This was the beginning of a steep career that quickly reached an international level and took the soprano to major opera houses around the world.

In Vienna Eva Mei a. a. the following roles: Donna Anna, Alcina, Hayden's Euridice, Schubert's Luitgarde, Violetta and the Contessa di Almaviva. The artist had guest engagements in Zurich as Alice Ford, as Queen of the Night at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and at the Berlin State Opera , where she also shone as Violetta in La traviata .

In 1993 the soprano made her debut at La Scala in Milan as Amenaide in Rossini's Tancredi . At La Scala, in Genoa, Bologna and Munich, she sang Norina in Don Pasquale , celebrated frenetically by the audience , Fanny in La cambiale di matrimonio at the Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro , Berenice in L'occasione fa il ladro in 1996 and in 1997 in Sofia in Il signor Bruschino .

Eva Mei appears on all major national and international opera stages: Amsterdam, Budapest, Geneva, Palermo, Vienna, Zurich, Berlin, Rome, Turin, Venice, Tokyo, Milan, Munich, Essen, London, Paris, Brussels, Venice, Cagliari etc. her repertoire includes, besides the already mentioned parts, still more in the following operas: Lucia di Lammermoor , Il Barbiere di Siviglia , the Impresario , Turandot , Carmen , La sonnambula , Il turco in Italia , the marriage of Figaro , Thaïs , the funny war , Falstaff , Norma , Zaide , La finta giardiniera , to name just a few of the many others.

The soprano is a sought-after and much acclaimed concert singer who has appeared on all of the major concert stages in Europe. Her repertoire includes songs by Claude Debussy , Ludwig van Beethoven , Joseph Haydn , Anton Bruckner , Richard Strauss , etc.

Eva Mei sang a. a. under Myung-Whun Chung , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Daniel Oren , Marcello Viotti , Franz Welser-Möst and Wolfgang Sawallisch . Several CDs, videos, radio and television appearances (across Europe) round off the singer's artistic activity.
