Éva Marton , née Éva Heinrich (born June 18, 1943 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian opera singer (initially a lyrical soprano , later increasingly a dramatic soprano ).

Life

Éva Marton, b. Heinrich, studied singing with Endre Rösler and Jenö Sipos at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in their hometown and made his debut as Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the summer festival on Margaret Island . Her official operatic debut took place in 1968 at the Hungarian State Opera as Queen Schemacha in The Golden Rooster , a role for high coloratura soprano . Later, at the Budapest Opera, to which she returned again and again despite her international career, she received great acclaim as Queen of Babylon in the opera Semirâma by Ottorino Respighi .

From 1972 to 1977 Éva Marton was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Frankfurt Opera, and was also contractually associated with the Vienna State Opera . The internationally famous soprano excelled at all the major opera stages in the world, in Paris, London, Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin, Hamburg, Milan, Zurich, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Buenos Aires, etc. She was also able to perform in the lyrical ( Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Umberto Giordano , Amilcare Ponchielli , Giacomo Puccini ) and in the dramatic repertoire ( Richard Wagner , Richard Strauss ) have had great successes. Éva Marton is a versatile singer with a voluminous voice. Her repertoire ranges from bel canto to highly dramatic: "So, with her voice, regardless of the role, she always easily asserted herself against any orchestra and filled the largest opera houses to the last row" (Herrmann / Hollaender 1997, p. 73) . Her central roles include the title roles in Tosca , Turandot and Elektra .

At the Bayreuth Festival from 1977 to 1978 she appeared as Venus and Elisabeth in Götz Friedrich's Tannhauser production . In 1986 Éva Marton caused a sensation at the Metropolitan Opera New York. During the performance of the opera Tosca , she suffered a jaw injury, but continued the performance anyway.

Éva Marton, who has worked with all internationally famous conductors and was on stage with the great singing colleagues of her day, can also look back on a worldwide career as a concert singer. Extensive CD and DVD publications document the work of this exceptional artist.

Éva Marton has been the head of the singing faculty of the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest since 2005 and has been professor of singing there since 2006. She is married to the surgeon Zoltán Marton.

In the 2007/2008 season she sang the sexton in Jenůfa at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg .
