Euphorbia baioensis is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia baioensis is highly branched and the shoots, which are upright at the beginning and later spread out, are up to 30 centimeters long. They are round and about 2 centimeters thick. The shoots are octagonal to ten-sided and gray-green in color. The elongated thorn shields are colored red when young, are 8 millimeters long and 2.5 millimeters wide and almost touch each other. Narrow thorns up to 10 millimeters in length are formed.

The inflorescence consists of single, simple and almost sedentary cymes . The cyathia become 3.5 millimeters in size. The elliptical nectar glands are colored yellow and border each other. The deeply lobed fruit is about 2.5 millimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. It stands on a stalk that is up to 3 millimeters long and bent back. Nothing is known about the seed.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia baioensis is common in the northeast of Kenya on mountain peaks around Mount Baio on weathered granite rock at altitudes of 1700 meters.

The species was first described in 1982 by Susan Carter Holmes .
