Euphorbia bergii is a species of plant from the genus Spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the spurge family(Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia bergii forms small shrubs with swollen roots that merge into the main shoot. The main shoot becomes about 15 centimeters high and forms many branches. With further branching, an inverted conical cluster of shoots up to 25 centimeters in diameter is formed. The individual branches are up to 15 centimeters long and about 12 millimeters thick. They are patterned with fields of slightly protruding, 5 millimeter long and 1.2 millimeter wide warts. The linear leaves are 6 millimeters long and are short-lived.

Individual cyathia are formed in 3 to 5 pieces at the tips of the branches, which stand on 4 to 17 millimeter long inflorescence stalks, on which in turn there are many small, long-lived bracts. The cyathia are about 6 millimeters in size. The individually standing nectar glands have two to four short, recurved appendages on the edge. The ovary is sessile and has only a few hairs. Nothing is known about the fruits and seeds.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia bergii is distributed in South Africa in the southwest of the Free State province and in the east of the North Cape .

The species was first described in 1941 by Alain Campbell White , Robert Allen Dyer and Boyd Lincoln Sloane .
