description

The succulent Euphorbia berthelotii grows as a shrub-like tree up to a height of 2 meters with a crown diameter of 2 meters. Branching shoots are formed from a short trunk, thickening towards the tip and turning reddish in color. They are succulent and have transverse leaf scars. The lanceolate leaves are close together at the shoot tips. They are seated, up to 5 inches long and 1.2 inches wide, and are short-lived. The upper side is colored glauc and the lower side is lighter. There is an attached tip at the tip of the leaf.

The terminal inflorescences consist of cymes up to 5 centimeters long , which are in six to ten-rayed umbels, with the rays dividing dichotomously . Two broad, egg-shaped bracts are formed on each of the inflorescences. They are up to 1.5 centimeters tall, are yellowish and fused together at the base. The almost sedentary cyathia reach about 5 millimeters in diameter. The nectar glands are slightly notched. The spherical fruit is about 4 millimeters in diameter and has a stalk about 4 millimeters long. The egg-shaped seed is smooth and has a conical appendage .
