Euphorbia boissieri is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia boissieri forms little branched shrubs with pentagonal shoots. The lanceolate leaves are up to 34 centimeters long and 6 centimeters wide and taper at the base to a stalk up to 7 centimeters long. The stipple thorns thickened at the base are up to 1.5 centimeters long and have long-lived tips. They unite along the edge of the shoots to form a cartilaginous hem with fringes.

The inflorescence consists of simple and almost terminal cymes , which are located on stems up to 5 centimeters long. The rounded cyathophylls are white or pink in color. The cyathia are on stems up to 1.5 centimeters long and reach about 3 millimeters in diameter. The elliptical nectar glands are colored yellow. The fruit is almost spherical. Nothing is known about the seed.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia boissieri is endemic to the northeast of Madagascar . The species is on the IUCN Red List and is considered endangered (Vulnerable).

The species was first described in 1860 by Henri Ernest Baillon . The species is possibly just a variant of Euphorbia lophogona .
