Euphorbia brevitorta is a species of plant of the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia brevitorta arises from a large, tuberous root and grows with dense branches, clumping up to 15 centimeters high and 15 to 100 centimeters in diameter. The triangular branches are up to 12 inches long and 1 to 2.5 inches thick. They are twisted in spirals and have protruding teeth at the edges at a distance of 0.5 to 2 centimeters from one another. The triangular thorn shields are up to 15 millimeters long and 2 millimeters wide. Occasionally they have grown together. Thorns up to 9 millimeters long are formed and there are other, very small thorns on both sides of the inflorescences.

The inflorescence consists of single and simple cymes , which are located on 3 to 5 millimeter long stems. The yellow cyathia grow to a size of 6 millimeters and the elliptical nectar glands collide. The bluntly lobed and sessile fruit is about 8 millimeters in size. It is colored green with a purple coating. The almost spherical seed is almost 3 millimeters in size.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia brevitorta is distributed in southern and central Kenya in crevices on slopes at altitudes of 1500 to 2000 meters.

The species was first described in 1959 by Peter René Oscar Bally .
