Euphorbia bruynsii is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia bruynsii arises from a bulbous root with a diameter of up to 3.5 centimeters. The subterranean shoot becomes about 5 centimeters long and branches just a little above the ground. On the thin branches are warts in spiral rows with a large distance from each other. The succulent leaves are ovate and about 1.5 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide. They are sedentary and ephemeral.

The inflorescence consists of terminal cymes that branch out in multiple bifurcations. The inflorescence stalks are up to 3 centimeters long. The cyathia are about 4 millimeters in size and the elongated, reddish-brown colored nectar glands meet. The bluntly lobed fruit is 4 millimeters long and 6 millimeters wide. It is located on a handle up to 5 millimeters long. The egg-shaped seed has a smooth surface and is 3.5 millimeters long and 2.5 millimeters wide.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia bruynsii is common under bushes in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

The species was first described in 1981 by Leslie Charles Leach .
