from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg "Schorsch" Boßler (born March 18, 1881 in Neckarsteinach ; † December 17, 1946 in Heidelberg ) was a German entrepreneur and company founder in the field of passenger shipping and tourism . Together with his youngest brother Andreas Boßler (* 1884; † 1961) he was a co-founder of the Bossler brothers' passenger shipping company in Neckarsteinach. He was considered one of the pioneers in the passenger shipping sector on the Neckar .

family

Georg Boßler was born as the second son of Jakob Friedrich I. Boßler (* 1851; † 1927) and his wife Sibylla Luise Götz (* 1854; † 1885). He was the brother of the entrepreneur Andreas Boßler, who was three years older than him, and, like him, came from the younger line of the Boßler family .

Through his mother, he was related to the Götz entrepreneurial family, which had been established in Neckarsteinach since 1791 . Georg Boßler was one of the grandchildren of the innkeeper, industrialist and quarry owner Johann Friedrich II. Götz (* 1820, † 1892), who among other things acted as a stone supplier for the Tulla river straightening. His maternal cousins were the two shipping entrepreneurs Ludwig (* 1887; † 1955) and Jakob Götz (* 1890; † 1977).

In addition, Georg Boßler was an uncle of the passenger shipping company Herbert Bossler (* 1907; † 1999) and a third cousin of the entrepreneur Werner Ludwig Boßler (* 1931; † 2018). Georg Boßler was born with Katharina Boßler. Wolf married.

Beginnings

After Georg Boßler had learned the trade of skipper, he was involved in a commercial rental of boats and gondolas in Neckarsteinach from 1910 . This business was run jointly by his father, himself and his three brothers. Georg Boßler was already organizing tourist excursions from Neckarsteinach to Heidelberg at this time.

Georg Boßler founded the shipping company Personenschiffahrt Gebr. Bossler together with his brother Andreas in 1926, the first motorized passenger ship of the Boßler brothers, the 45 hp Viktor von Scheffel built in 1921 at the Ebert and Sons shipyard for Andreas Boßler . In 1927 the passenger ship Bligger von Steinach was put into service. In 1928 the Alt-Heidelberg I followed in the passenger fleet.

For the two shipping entrepreneurs Georg and Andreas Boßler, the 1930s were characterized by the fact that four passenger ships were taken over from the competing entrepreneur Gebr. Fischer & Zahnleitner. These included the unity , Karl Theodor , Liselotte and Von Hindenburg units . The owners of Von Hindenburg in 1938 were his two nephews Herbert and Karl Boßler (* 1912; † 1964).

After the Second World War , only three of the former seven passenger ships were still in service with the Boßler brothers. The Liselotte sank due to war damage, the unity remained with the US armed forces , the Karl Theodor came to Speyer and the Von Hindenburg found its way to Koblenz .

Like his younger brother Andreas, Georg Boßler was one of the pioneers in the white shipping sector on the Neckar. He did not experience the further development of the shipping company he co-founded after the Second World War . This was influenced by the fact that the shipping companies Bossler instrumental in tourism were involved and tourism in Neckarsteinach and the surrounding area and high representatives from the fields of government and politics mattered and from abroad to their guests.
