Jakob Götz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jakob Götz (born March 19, 1890 in Neckarsteinach ; † 1977 ibid) was a German company founder , entrepreneur , quarry owner and ship owner . He was co-founder, co-owner and namesake of the shipping company Ludwig and Jakob Götz KG . Together with his older brother Ludwig Götz (1887–1955) he is considered the founder of motorized freight shipping on the Neckar and also a pioneer of inland shipping .

Life and parentage

Jakob Götz was the second oldest of five siblings from the marriage of shipper and quarry owner Ludwig Friedrich Götz (1865–1922) with Karoline Oestreicher (1867–1932). He was thus the younger brother of the shipowner and quarry owner Ludwig Götz by three years.

Jakob was, like his older brother Ludwig, a grandson of the innkeeper ( Adlerwirt ), industrialist and multiple quarry owner Johann Friedrich II. Götz (1820-1892). He comes from the quarry owner family Götz, who have been based in Neckarsteinach since 1791.

His direct cousins were the entrepreneurs and pioneers of passenger shipping in the Neckar area Georg (1881–1946) and Andreas Boßler (1884–1961).

Jakob Götz was cross-cousin married to Elisabethe Sibylla Vorreuther, who came from the Vorreuther family through her paternal line. This already provided the guild - as well as brother masters of the local boatmen's guild . Elisabethe Sibylla was a daughter of Jacob's aunt Elisabetha Vorreuther nee. Götz.

Entrepreneurship

Beginnings

As was part of the family tradition, Jakob Götz also took up the profession of skipper and rode with his brother Ludwig Götz on the iron barge Friedrich , which their father gave the two brothers together. With the barge that has now been taken over, armor stones were transported from the family's own quarries to expand the Neckar into a major waterway. The hydraulic engineering administration acted as the buyer of the building blocks.

In 1924 the first motor cargo ship on the Neckar was commissioned by Ludwig Götz and built at the Anderssen shipyard in Neckarsulm . Ludwig left the management of the MS Gebr. Götz to his younger brother Jakob Götz, who also drove the motor ship himself. Jakob's older brother Ludwig sailed on the ship MS Einigkeit, which was completed in 1927 .

founding

In 1920 the shipping company Ludwig and Jakob Götz oHG was founded by Jakob Götz and his older brother Ludwig Götz. This happened through the handover of the barge Friedrich . 1952 followed the legal form of the limited partnership for the shipping company. Jakob Götz is one of the founders of motorized freight shipping on the Neckar, as he and his brother Ludwig commissioned the first motorized freight ship on the river in 1925.

post war period

With the construction and completion of the MS Vierburgenstadt in 1950, the two brothers Ludwig and Jakob Götz joined the ranks of the pioneers of German inland shipping, as the Vierburgenstadt was the first new ship to be built in all of Germany after the Second World War .

Quarries

Jakob Götz was not only a shipping entrepreneur, but also a multiple quarry owner in the Neckar Valley. Together with his brother Ludwig, he continued the quarries of his grandfather Johann Friedrich II. Götz and his father Ludwig Friedrich Götz and acquired the following quarries.
