The Schwabenheim lock system is a canal barrage near Schwabenheim . It consists of a double lock at the lower end of the 5 km long Wieblingen canal . The associated weir Wieblingen is located at the upper end of the Altneckar . The lock itself is in the Dossenheim district .

Construction project

The left lock chamber, more than 85 years old, seen in the direction of the Neckar, is to be extended by around 40 m towards the Rhine . The left lock chamber has a mortise gate on the east side and a swing gate on the west side. The lock gates are expected to be around 30 and 40 years old at the start of the renovation and will have to be replaced due to their age. The concrete of the lock chamber walls must also be renovated. The drive and electrical engineering were last renewed in 1984 and should also be replaced due to their age so that they can be remotely controlled at a later date. As part of the extension of the left lock chamber, a new service bridge is planned below the extended lock chamber. The right chamber from 1955 was renovated in the mid-1980s due to alkali-silica reactions in the concrete. Before the basic repair and extension of the left chamber is carried out, the left wall in the right chamber is repaired. No further repair measures are currently planned. Finally, the lower outer harbor will be repaired with a 240 m long sheet pile wall.

Estimated construction time

The construction project is expected to be implemented by 2020.
