The Hessigheim barrage is a river barrage and consists of a double lock on the right bank, a triple weir and a power station on the left bank. The 50 and 60 year old lock gates reached their useful life in a few years. In 2010, a door in the left chamber was irreparably damaged in an incident, so that since then the left chamber has been out of order and it is only through the right chamber.

Construction project

Because of the damage and the almost reached service life of the gates, work is being done at full speed to replace the lock gates with standard stem gates in the left chamber and thus to put the lock back into operation. At the same time, the machine technology of the doors is replaced by electric lifting cylinders (EHZ). Before the drive technology and the doors are replaced, the solid construction in the door chamber area is adapted. After replacing the gates in the left chamber and restoring the functionality of the lock, the right chamber will be switched to standby mode and will only be used if necessary until the planned basic repair.

The planned overhaul of the right chamber includes the renovation of the chamber walls, the replacement of the gates including the drives and the electrical engineering, all of which come from the construction period. A renovation is necessary not least because of the numerous cracks with water penetration in the concrete, which in the long term endanger the stability of the chamber. By using environmentally friendly electric lifting cylinders as door drives, the doors can be controlled more efficiently. In addition, the electrical supply technology that no longer conforms to the standards is being renewed in this context.

Estimated construction time

Construction of the left lock chamber will begin in 2013. The left lock chamber is expected to be operational again in spring 2014. The basic overhaul of the right chamber is planned for 2018.

location

Seen from the Rhine , the barrage is the 16th facility.

Boat tow

There is a boat tow available on the right , which is very long at 600 m.
