The Horkheim weir is located near Heilbronn - Horkheim . The weir system is separated from the lock , flood gate and power plant, which delimit the side canal, at the beginning of the Neckar old arm. Seen from the Rhine , the weir is the 13th facility.

The locks installed in the weir fields and used for stowage control have a total height of 7.60 m. These riveted fasteners, which are now 80 years old, show extensive damage to the corrosion protection and in some cases considerable rust. Furthermore, the spur gears that were used to drive the locks and that date back to the construction period no longer correspond to the current state of the art. The four 4.50 m wide weir piers consist of unreinforced rammed concrete with a low strength and large pore volume, which tend to penetrate water and the resulting frost damage.

Construction project and construction time

The basic overhaul of the weir therefore provides for the replacement of the weir locks, drives and electrical and control technology, as well as the necessary repair of the weir and connecting bridge. Furthermore, the 80-year-old concrete of the weir pillars is being strengthened. In order to counteract the uplift of the defensive floor, it is secured by using anchors.

The construction of the basic overhaul of the Horkheim weir started in spring 2012. Completion is planned for 2018.
