The Kochendorf lock in the southern part of the city of Bad Friedrichshall consists of a double lock on the right bank and a power plant to the left of the Neckar . The approximately 4.60 km long Kochendorf side channel joins in the upper water . In the further course of the oxbow river of the Neckar, the associated weir in Neckarsulm is connected . Immediately below the lock chambers a bridge crosses the Neckar, which also serves the plant traffic of the power plant. The lower edge of the bridge is approximately 20 cm above the headwater level.

Extension of the right lock chamber

Because the height of the lower edge of the bridge to the upper water level (upstream side of the Neckar) is far too low, the right locks can only be extended to the upper water (southeast side). After the extension, the lock chamber will be around 140 m long. The solid construction, lock gates and drives in the right lock chamber date from the construction period in 1954 and will be renewed due to the end of its useful life, as will the lock equipment (bollards, ladders, etc.). Furthermore, due to age, the electrical, control and communication technology is replaced and brought up to the current state of the art. The adaptation of the drive houses follows a correspondingly increased space requirement. As part of the construction project, a new cable crash protection system will be installed in the lower head to prevent a ship from colliding with the gate (collision of a ship with the lock gate). The chamber walls, lock gates, drives and the electrical engineering of the left lock chamber (built in 1925) were replaced in 1987. In the course of the lock extension, the outer harbor will be adapted on the right side. Furthermore, as part of the construction project, a new fish pass is being built on the side of the power plant as a compensation measure for the lock extension .

Estimated construction time

Construction time is expected to be from 2018 [obsolete] to 2021.

location

Seen from the Rhine , the lock is the eleventh facility. The associated weir is located in Neckarsulm.

Boat tow

In contrast to most of the other Neckar locks, the Kochendorf lock has no boat tow . On the left side in front of the power plant the embankment is flat and there is a path to a staircase behind the power plant, but access to the power plant canal is prohibited.
