Flood in June 2016
On June 25, 2016, a heavy rain event up the Neckar created a tidal wave that increased the discharge volume from 80 m³ / s to 300 m³ / s within one hour. Due to construction work, however, only 2 of 3 defense areas were available. An incorrect control of the weirs led to a massive increase in water, which led to flooding in courtyards and areas of the Max-Eyth-See. After a few hours the damage was repaired and the water could drain away again. 32 cars and 13 houses were badly affected and damage of around € 850,000 was caused. The DLRG rescue center was also flooded. Including the rescue vehicles, the damage is estimated at over € 1 million.
As a consequence, the Waterways and Shipping Office installed new software in all Stuttgart weirs in February 2017.
