The barrage Obertürkheim (on the borough of Hedelfingen ) is a river barrage in the industrial belt of the state capital Stuttgart and consists of a double lock on the right bank, a three-field weir and a power plant on the left bank in the direction of the Neckar.
Condition and use
At the moment only the left lock chamber is in operation, while only the solid structure and the lower gate are present on the right lock chamber. The upper gate is not built in. All the necessary drive components are also not yet available. The concrete wall of the left lock chamber intended for extension is in good condition considering its age and is not yet to be renovated. Massive road bridges (harbor approaches) cross the Neckar above and below the lock. The height of the Hedelfinger bridge above the underwater is only at the height of the upper water level. The remote control center for the locks is also located here in: Hofen, Cannstatt, Untertürkheim (all three downstream), and Esslingen, Oberesslingen and Deizisau (all three upstream).
Construction project
In order to guarantee safe and speedy lock operation again, the decommissioned right lock chamber will be modernized and repaired in the coming years. As part of this modernization of the right lock chamber, the lower gate was replaced and the upper gate was rebuilt with the necessary solid construction adjustments in the areas of the lower and upper head. The entire electrical and communications technology will be completely rebuilt and housed in operational buildings that have to be converted and in some cases newly built. A shock protection system is also being built to prevent ships from colliding with the Untertor. Furthermore, the installation of a new headwater inspection lock takes place.
location
Seen from the Rhine , the barrage is the 24th facility.
