The dam Neckarsulm is part of the barrage Kochendorf that are further from the lock Kochendorf with connected power plant and the 4 km long side channel Kochendorf composed. The Neckarsulm weir system lies at the level of the beginning of the side canal. The Altneckar joins the weir system. The two-lane state road L 1101 between Neckarsulm and Obereisesheim runs over the weir . This was widened in 1996 by 3.50 m to underwater. The 3.00 m wide weir piers are made of stamped concrete with strongly fluctuating strength. There are cracks and broken concrete. The locks of the Neckarsulm weir, like the entire weir system, date from 1925 and therefore show some damage.
Construction project
Due to the old age and the reduced functionality, there is a need for action. The first subsoil examinations were carried out in autumn 2011. It is currently being investigated in which way the weir system can be brought up to the current state of the art or the functionality can be completely restored. In this regard, great attention is paid to operational safety. From an economic point of view, the focus is on two alternatives - an extensive basic repair or a replacement new building in the headwater, about 130 m upstream. During the basic repairs, the seals would be replaced and the piers would be lengthened approx. 15 m downstream. The tests currently focus on the use of a hose closure system for the new replacement building.
Estimated construction time
The construction time depends mainly on the extent to which a basic repair or a replacement building is decided. The implementation phase of the construction project is planned from 2017.
