The Lauffen barrage is located at the upper end of an approximately 0.8 km long, narrow lock canal (Lauffen Canal) and consists of a double lock on the right bank, a three-field weir and a power station on the left bank in the direction of flow of the Neckar . Immediately below the lock chambers, a road bridge ( B 27 ) crosses the Neckar. In the right lock chamber, the lower gate was upgraded in 1982 and the upper gate in 1986. The concrete wall as well as the drives and the electrical engineering come from the construction period and have not been changed.
history
The contract for the construction of the left lock chamber (seen in the direction of the river), the power station, the weir and the shipping canal downstream of the lock took place in 1938. Completion according to the contract was originally planned for December 1940. However, due to the effects of the war, the construction work had to be stopped. In 1948 the remaining work was awarded. The lock was opened to traffic in 1951. The right lock chamber was opened to traffic after completion of the second construction phase in 1962.
Construction project
The concrete walls of the left lock chamber have not been overhauled since the construction time in 1951 and are therefore in need of renovation. As part of the basic repairs to the left lock chamber, the existing, damaged concrete walls are milled off 0.40 m deep and then provided with an equally thick layer of concrete. New standardized mortise gates replace the gates on the top and bottom that are in poor condition. In this context, drive and control technology is brought up to the latest state of the art. The drive houses will be adapted or rebuilt. The construction measure also includes the renewal of the impact protection system on the lower head, which prevents the ship from colliding with the lower gate, and the upgrading of the chamber equipment (ladders, bollards, protective devices, revision locks and cable ducts). In order to accommodate the new and extensive technology, a new company building is being built on land. A crane parking space will be created on land for lifting the gates in and out.
Estimated construction time
The construction work is expected to last from mid-2013 to the end of 2015.
