The Cannstatt barrage is a barrage of the Neckar and consists of a double lock on the right bank, a hydroelectric power plant planned by Paul Bonatz on the left bank and a two-field weir in the middle. The lock is operated remotely from the remote control center in the Obertürkheim barrage.

construction

In 1919/20, after long preliminary planning, the construction of the Neckar Canal was tackled. In the course of these measures, the Stuttgart-Cannstatt barrage with weir and power station was built from 1927 to 1930. The weir consists of two rollers, of which the right one has an attached flap for fine adjustment. The associated double-chamber lock was not built until 1955-1958 as part of the expansion of the Neckar. Due to the space problem at this point (two bridges, buildings, springs), it was installed between the railway and road bridges there. Upstream gates of the same construction as in the Poppenweiler barrage were built. For reasons of space, the gates located downstream are swing gates that are raised when they are opened before they are swiveled. They are provided with counterweights and are moved by an electric lifting cylinder via articulated racks.
