Euphorbia caterviflora is a species of the genus spurge ( Euphorbia ) in the family of Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia caterviflora forms small shrubs up to 30 centimeters in height that are dioecious . From a somewhat tuberous root appear densely standing opposite shoots, which are spread out and up to 6 millimeters thick. The other branches take place with very short, cylindrical to six-ribbed shoots, which have a smooth or roughened surface. The triangular-spear-shaped leaves are up to 2.5 millimeters long, are bent back and usually long-lived.
The inflorescence consists of simple cymes , which appear terminal or axillary, stand in pairs or several together and are seated. The egg-shaped bracts are 1.3 millimeters long and 0.6 millimeters wide. The cyathia reach up to 3 millimeters in diameter and the elliptical nectar glands meet. The almost spherical fruit is 4 millimeters in diameter and has a 0.5 millimeter long stem. Nothing is known about the seeds.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia caterviflora is common in the South African provinces of the Western Cape , Eastern Cape and Free State .
The species was first described in 1915 by Nicholas Edward Brown . Synonyms for this species are Tirucallia caterviflora (NEBr.) PVHeath (1996) and Euphorbia hastisquama N.E.Br. (1915).
