Euphorbia piscidermis is a species of the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).
description
The succulent Euphorbia piscidermis has fibrous roots and an almost spherical body that only forms further shoots after an injury to the vertex. The plants are up to 11 centimeters wide and up to 7.5 centimeters high and are covered with warts that have the shape of diamond-shaped and lined scales. These are distributed in about 13 spiral rows over the plant body.
The inflorescence consists of individual, simple cymes that appear grouped radially around the apex. The inflorescence stalks are up to 1 centimeter long and carry the 2 to 3 millimeter large cyathia . 4 or 5 elongated nectar glands are formed on the middle male cyathium, which are very close and touching. The bluntly lobed fruit is about 2.6 millimeters in size and protrudes from a bent back flower stalk. The egg-shaped seed is wrinkled.
Distribution and systematics
Euphorbia piscidermis is widespread in Ethiopia in the former Hararghe province on stony limestone slopes with flat vegetation at altitudes of 1000 meters.
The species was first described in 1973 by Michael George Gilbert .
