Euphorion is a scientific journal for literary history for the entire field of German philology . It is published by the Winter University Press and is edited by Wolfgang Adam . The title derives from Faust. The second part of the tragedy . It names the son of Helena and Faust and stands for the connection between ancient and Germanic tradition.

history

The magazine has an eventful editorial history.

In 1894, Euphorion was founded by August Sauer , an Austrian literary historian . From 1914 he took over the publication together with Josef Nadler . Shortly before Sauer's death in 1926, George Stefansky replaced him .

From 1934 to 1944 the magazine was renamed to Dicht und Volkstum and edited by Hermann Pongs and Julius Petersen . The content was accordingly strongly nationalistic.

In 1950 the magazine got its old title again. The editors were now Hans Pyritz and Hans Neumann .
