The Eureka Glacier is a 29 km long glacier with a moderate slope on the Rymill coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . At the confluence with George VI Sound , it is 27 km wide. It is south of the on its northern edge by the Mount Edgell located Nunatakker and on its southern flank by the Traverse Mountains to and Terminus Nunatak limited. There is also a connection to the Wordie Ice Shelf via the Prospect Glacier .
A first survey of the area was made in 1936 by participants in the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill and again in 1948 by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey . The name is based on Archimedes ' attributed saying " Heureka " (German: "I have found [it]") and was intended to express the satisfaction of the dogsled team of the British Graham Land Expedition, a successful route over this glacier to George VI in 1936 -Sound to have found.
