Predecessor school OSZ Palmnicken
The Upper School Center Palmnicken in Fürstenwalde was founded on August 1, 1991 in the vicinity of the municipal grammar school Werner Seelenbinder Fürstenwalde, the district grammar school Fürstenwalde and the Catholic grammar school Fürstenwalde. It was created through the merger of the vocational and engineering schools in the former Fürstenwalde and Beeskow districts . From August 1991 the previous schools (the Fürstenwalde vocational school, the Fürstenwalde industrial and technical vocational school, the Beeskow vocational school, the Heinersdorf vocational school, the Rüdersdorf vocational school, the Erkner municipal vocational school, the Hubertushöhe Storkow engineering school for inland fishing, the »SWLebedew« Fürstenwalde engineering school) were gradually established and the Agricultural Engineering School for Melioration and Plant Production Palmnicken) at the location in Palmnicken, north of Fürstenwalde. By the 2007/08 school year, all departments were relocated from the OSZ to Fürstenwalde. Since the school was founded, major new buildings and renovations have taken place, most recently the construction of the power tool hall in 2011.
Predecessor school OSZ Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz
The Oberstufenzentrum Eisenhüttenstadt was founded on August 1st, 1991. In the school, the company school of the Eisenhüttenkombinate Ost, the company vocational school of the construction and assembly combine East, the municipal vocational school "Martin Andersen Nexö", the company vocational school of the Finkenheerd power plant and a sub-area of the medical college were combined. Classes were initially held in four school locations in Eisenhüttenstadt: Location 1 (Waldstrasse 10), Location 2 (Karl-Marx-Strasse 35), Location 3 (Wilhelmstrasse 98) and Location 4 (Poststrasse 41) (until 1992). On August 1, 1994, the Oder-Spree district took over responsibility for the school. The school was named Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz . Extensive new buildings and renovations were also carried out at the OSZ Eisenhüttenstadt, for example the renovation of the main building in Eisenhüttenstadt.
OSZ Oder-Spree
Today's school was founded on August 1, 2012 and was created through the merger of the two upper school centers Palmnicken and Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz . On August 1st 2013 the name of the school was changed to Europaschule Oberstufenzentrum Oder-Spree . The secretariat and the school management are based at the main location of the school in Palmnicken.
Activities and working groups
The OSZ Oder-Spree offers a variety of opportunities to work outside of school. The Palmdragon dragon boat team has existed since 2012 and is operated in cooperation with Hawlinger eV. The team regularly takes part in various regattas. In 2015 the team was merged with the school team of the Catholic High School to form the North Axis team .
Furthermore, it offers students the extracurricular activities of school newspaper, yearbook, student company, vintage car, Japanese, volleyball and theater. Committed parents, teachers and the school also organize themselves in the school's friends' association.
