The Scholl-Gymnasium (formerly Circle Royal School Fürstenwalde ) in Fürstenwalde / Spree is a circular asking school with two school locations. The school is named after the resistance fighters Hans Scholl and Sophie Scholl .

history

On June 17, 1865, the first higher civic school was founded in the area of the city of Fürstenwalde. This became a Progymnasium in 1874 and a full grammar school in 1877. The first grammar school in Fürstenwalde was located in the building of today's Free Rahn Primary School Fürstenwalde until 1928 . From 1928 to 1945 classes continued in a building on Hangelsberger Chaussee. Subsequently, these rooms were occupied by the West Group until 1992 and are now in disrepair. After the end of the war, the building of the school at the cathedral was occupied (today the location of the city museum).

Today's school was founded on August 1 , 1991 as the Fürstenwalde District Gymnasium and emerged from the EOS Ottomar-Geschke Fürstenwalde named after SED politician Ottomar Geschke . It was supported by the Fürstenwalde district . The school moved into the building of the former municipal vocational school "Geschwister-Scholl" at Frankfurter Straße 70, which in return moved to the Palmnicken location, and shares it with the Fürstenwalde adult education center to this day . In the course of reunification , the old name Ottomar-Geschke was no longer acceptable, so that on October 30, 1992 the name of the school was changed to Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Fürstenwalde . The name was derived from the writing "Geschwister-Scholl" above the main entrance, which was still preserved in 1992, and was chosen as the new school name by the students, teachers and parents of the school. In addition to the Schollgymnasium, the municipal grammar school " Werner-Seelenbinder " Fürstenwalde and the Catholic grammar school have also existed since 1991 . The municipal high school emerged in 1991 from the former EOS Werner-Seelenbinder and was located in the direct vicinity of the Schollgymnasium in the building of the former boys' school.

Since the birth rate also fell in Fürstenwalde after reunification, the class trains at the grammar schools became smaller and fewer. The municipal grammar school was hit particularly hard, and from 2006 onwards, due to the low number of students, it was no longer able to guarantee proper school operations. For this reason, the school was incorporated into the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in August 2007. Since then, the Scholl-Gymnasium has been a school with two school locations.
