The European protection area Spirkenwälder Brandnertal ( Natura 2000 areas , also: Spirkenwälder Brandnertal ) is located in the municipality of Bürserberg in Vorarlberg , Austria in the Rätikon . It includes forest , especially mountain pines (Spirken). The mountain pines are considered to be "survivors" and can also grow in very nutrient-poor areas, as is the case here, but also in acidic subsoil, such as in raised bogs .

The purpose of the European protected area Spirkenwälder Brandnertal is the protection of endangered wild native plant and animal species and their natural habitats.

Legal basis

The European protection area Spirkenwälder Brandnertal was designated as such with a simple state law in accordance with the Vorarlberg Nature Conservation Ordinance. The flora-fauna-habitat directive 92/43 / EEC (FFH directive) of the European Union forms the basis for the protection .

The European protection area Spirkenwälder Brandnertal is located in the municipality of Bürserberg in the Brandnertal , partly on the border with the municipality of Brand , on the southern slope below the Taleukopf ( 1746  m above sea level ). The entire protected area lies at an altitude of about 1100  m above sea level. A. up to 1750  m above sea level A. and has an area of ​​about 105 hectares. To the south, below the protected area, lies the district of Studa ( hdt . : perennials ) of the community of Brand. On the north and north-west side of the protected area are the Alps (e.g .: Klamperaalpe (around 1655  m above sea level ), Burtschaalpe (around 1450  m above sea level )).

Purpose and scope of protection

In accordance with the Flora-Fauna-Habitat Directive (Annex I of the Habitats Directive), the priority habitat of mountain pine (montane and subalpine Pinus uncinata) on forests on gypsum and lime substrates is particularly protected for this protected area .

This European protected area is one of three more in the Rätikon to protect the mountain pine deposits ( European protected area Spirkenwälder Innergamp , European protected area Spirkenwald Oberer Tritt , European protected area Spirkenwälder Saminatal ). These four protected areas cover the largest occurrences in Vorarlberg and around half of the Austria-wide spirke stocks.

Use and traffic

The European protected area is rarely used as a local recreation area. There are no public roads leading into the protected area.
