European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes
The European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes ( French Association Européenne des Instituts de Recherche et de Formation en Matière de Développement , EADI ) is the European umbrella organization for development research . EADI has around 300 members in 27 European countries, more than half of which are institutional members, i.e. research and training institutes in the field of development research and development cooperation.
Goals and Activities
The aim of the association is to increase the quality of development research and training, to promote scientific cooperation in this field and to make the research results available to the public. Further goals are interdisciplinary cooperation in European development research and networking with comparable research and training institutions, individual scientists and their umbrella organizations in developing countries. EADI is itself part of a worldwide network of regional associations of development research and training institutes ( Interregional Coordinating Committee of Development Associations - ICCDA). The cooperation and exchange between the members of EADI takes place in thematic working groups. EADI publishes its own international journal, the European Journal of Development Research , and publishes the results of the working groups in its own series of books.
The association's work is financed, among other things, through membership fees, grants ( Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development ; State of North Rhine-Westphalia ) and through participation in scientific EU projects.
Accreditation of study programs
As part of the association's work on quality assurance, EADI developed a procedure for the accreditation of development research study programs . An Accreditation Council (“International Accreditation Council”, IAC / EADI) with experts from the field carries out the accreditations on the basis of guidelines, which in turn are based on the standards of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
General Conferences
Every three years, EADI organizes a large international conference with one of the member institutes, which serves the technical discussion of the research results of the members and the presentation of general development policy issues to the public.
