The European Platform of Women Scientists ( EPWS ) is an umbrella organization of various networks and organizations of women scientists from the European Union and other countries associated with the research framework program of the European Commission that promote gender equality in research. The president is the French physics professor at the École polytechnique Claudine Hermann. The honorary president is the German pharmacist Brigitte Mühlenbruch (as of 2020).

organization

The EPWS was founded in November 2005 as an international non-profit organization under Belgian law ( VoG ) and is headed by an international and multidisciplinary body made up of eleven high-ranking women scientists. It complements the European initiatives to promote greater participation of women scientists in research and science policy as well as the inclusion of a gender dimension in research and thus forms a strategic instrument of European research policy.

The platform represents over 100 member organizations who stand up for the interests and aspirations of more than 12,000 European women scientists. It represents all scientific disciplines from natural science to social science .
