European Tournament for Dancing Students

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
41st European Tournament for Dancing Students (ETDS), Groningen , Netherlands . 2009.

European Tournament for Dancing Students (also called ETDS for short ) is the largest European dance tournament for students . It has been held twice a year in changing university cities since 1989.

The mostly three-day event takes place on the weekend of Pentecost and in autumn. Most of the participants are students and come from all over Europe , with the Netherlands and Germany making up the largest proportions.

The focus is on two mass sports tournaments in which around 200-300 European dance couples compete in no (or only in lower tournament classes) regular competitions. The tournaments are divided into standard and Latin dances according to the world dance program . In addition, there are two tournaments, which are also divided into standard and Latin dances , in which about 50 dancers with more competitive experience compete. However, since the focus should be on having fun dancing, there are usually special rules for these tournaments, such as that the dance partners are drawn or that special rules apply to individual dances, such as tango at 2 by 2 meters. All tournaments take place on Saturdays and Sundays during the day.

The supporting program consists of three evening events, with a gala ball at the end.

At the end of each event, a challenge cup , the so-called walking mouse, is awarded among the participating universities .
