Eurygaster fokkeri is a bug from the family of the shield bugs (Scutelleridae).

features

The bugs are 8.5 to 10.0 millimeters long. Their antennae are light brown, the last two links are black. The pronotum has semicircular rounded sides. The scutellum has no calluses in the corners and has a weakly indicated keel. The abdomen is broad at the edge ( connexive ) and protrudes over the label to the side. The legs are spotted black.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is common in the Alpine region. It has been found in Germany in the Allgäu and in the Bavarian Alps and Prealps, in Austria in Tyrol and Upper Austria. It can occur frequently locally.

Eurygaster fokkeri inhabits grassy roadsides and forest edges and also clearings.

Way of life

The bugs live on sweet grasses (Poaceae), especially on riding grasses ( Calamagrostis ). The adults and older nymphs , however, presumably feed on a polyphagous diet . As a rule, the adults hibernate, but possibly also older nymphs, which can sometimes still be found in autumn.
