Euthalia formosana is a butterfly ( butterfly ) from the family of the noble butterfly (Nymphalidae)occurringin Taiwan .

The fore wing length of the females is 46 to 50 millimeters, in the slightly smaller males between 40 and 43 millimeters. Common to both sexes is the gray-green to blue-gray basic color of the upper sides of the wings. A whitish band extends over the disk region on both pairs of wings, which forks on the front wings towards the apex . In the submarginal region , a series of round black spots can be seen on the upper side of the hind wing. On the brown underside of the wing, the drawing on the upper side seems to have faded through. The basal region of the hind wings is bright cream-colored.
Caterpillar
Adult caterpillars are colored green. Fir-branch-like, prickly protrusions emerge from each body segment. The white line of the back is provided with a few pink spots.
distribution and habitat
The species occurs in Taiwan . Euthalia formosana primarily inhabits oak forests.
Way of life
The moths fly between April and November and have a predominant occurrence in the months of June and July. Occasionally they suck on damp places in the earth to absorb fluids and minerals. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of various oak species ( Quercus ) and Mallotus philippensis .
