Euxoa culminicola is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe owl butterfly family (Noctuidae).

The wingspan is 39 to 46 millimeters. The color of the upper side of the forewing varies in different shades of gray or brown. In freshly hatched specimens there is a strong yellowish over-dusting. The dark transverse lines are well developed, while blemishes are weak or not at all recognizable. The color of the undersigned rear wing top corresponds approximately to that of the forewings, although the yellowish tint is much weaker. The thorax is hairy yellow-brown.

Caterpillar

The caterpillars are gray-brown to ash-gray in color. Back and side lines and point warts only stand out indistinctly.

distribution and habitat

Euxoa culminicola occurs only in a few places in the Alps and Pyrenees above the tree line in locations between 2000 and 3000 meters.

Way of life

The species forms one generation per year, the moths of which fly in July and August. The moths are diurnal and nocturnal. They were observed sucking on flowers during the day. They also visit artificial light sources late at night . The caterpillars live from September. They overwinter and pupate in May of the following year.
