Eva Colorni

Eva Colorni (born April 7, 1941 in Italy , † July 3, 1985 in London ) was Professor of Economics at the City of London Polytechnic (now London Metropolitan University ).

Life

Eva Colorni comes from an anti-fascist Italian-German family. She was the daughter of Eugenio Colorni , who was murdered in 1944 for anti-fascist activities, and Ursula Hirschmann (1913–1991), a sister of Albert O. Hirschman .

She studied at the University of Pavia and initially taught at the Delhi School of Economics , and from the 1970s at the City of London Polytechnic (now part of the London Metropolitan University).

In 1973 she married the economist and business philosopher Amartya Sen , with whom she had two children, Indrani and Kabir. She died of stomach cancer at the age of 44.

In 1985 the Eva Colorni Memorial Trust was established. In 1996, Living as Equals, a commemorative publication in her honor, was published by Oxford University Press .
