The Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii nuntiandi of Pope Paul VI. deals with evangelization in today's world and dates from December 8, 1975 .

In the first six chapters it describes Christ as the originator of evangelization, the Church and its representatives as the bearer of evangelization, as well as its contents, ways, methods and addressees, the hearers of the good news.

The final seventh chapter deals with the spirit of evangelization. It is to take place authentically in the power of the Holy Spirit and aim at unity in faith. Committed to the truth and inspired by love, it should respect the religious and spiritual situation of the people who are being evangelized. Respect for their own rhythm of life, which one must not overburden. Respect for their conscience and their beliefs, which should not be snubbed (EN 79). The proclamation of the gospel is word that saves .

The papal letter was written for the first time following a synod of bishops . According to the scope, Paul VI. to dedicate a separate encyclical to this topic . However, after the encyclical Humanae vitae , the Pope decided not to publish any further encyclicals in order to underline the particular seriousness of this teaching letter.
