Evangelical Church (Elâzığ)
The Armenian Evangelical Church ( Turkish Ermeni Protestan Kilisesi , Armenian Հայաստանեայց Աւետարանական Եկեղեցի Hajastaneajz 'Awjetaranakan Yekeghez'i ) is a historic church building of the Armenian Evangelical denomination in the city center of Elâzığ . The area of the church is currently used as a parking lot.
The Evangelical Church was built in the 19th century during the Ottoman period and was used by the Arpacı flour factory after the Armenian genocide in 1915 . Later it was used as a market hall and goat stall. In 2007 it was announced that it would be converted into a hospital, which has not yet been implemented. There are currently plans to build a hotel in its place.
Although it has been listed in the list of historical monuments of the “District Directorate for Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection of Diyarbakır ” (Diyarbakır Kültür ve Tabiat Varlıklarını Koruma Bölge Müdürlüğü) , the church was left to decay. The roof has collapsed, the old frescoes above the apse are difficult to see. The entrance is damaged. Despite an E-letter in Armenian script above the choir , it is still listed in the protection list under the name " Assyrian Church of Elâzığ".
