Banfer Church

The Evangelical Church Banfe is a listed church building in Banfe , a district of Bad Laasphe in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

A church was first mentioned in a document in 1492. It was built on a ridge between the streams of Banfe and Godelsbach. Because of this location, it can be assumed that she is older. There were two bells in the roof turret. In a report from 1852, the builder Grupe pointed out the poor structural condition of the building. The Feudinger pastor wrote in 1864, finally, that the chapel was irreparable and suggested a new building. Due to a lack of funds, this project failed. As a result, part of the church collapsed at Easter 1872. During the demolition of the walls, which were mainly made and covered with clay mortar and then lightly whitewashed, murals appeared under the upper whitewash, which fell victim to the demolition.

In 1876 the construction of the current church began. After a year of construction, the church was completed and consecrated on December 18, 1877. In 2006 an annex was added to the church, which serves as a sacristy and toilet.

building

The church is laid out in an east-west direction. The architectural style is built in Romanesque style from natural stone and the roof and towers are slate . These two towers on the western side of the building are 20.05 m high. The church was built as a natural stone masonry structure with arched windows .

It is the only church in the Wittgenstein parish with two towers. For this reason her nickname is "Banfer Dom".

Bells

The two bells from the previous building were taken over in the current church. In 1882, another bell was bought that was used to ring the school. Two bells had to be handed in during the First World War , the third bell received the Herbertshausen school . The parish commissioned two new steel bells in 1922, which were cast by the Bochumer Verein in 1924 . These were replaced by two bronze bells in 1972, the two steel bells can be viewed in the Banfetal Local History Museum .

organ

In 1899 a pneumatic two-manual organ was purchased from Albin Hickmann. This replaced the church's harmonium . The organ was modified in 1930, 1950 and 1975.
