The Evangelical Church Hüttwilen is the Evangelical - Reformed Church in the same village in the canton of Thurgau . It is located on Dorfstrasse near the Catholic Church of St. Franziskus .

prehistory

Ruins from Roman times prove that Hüttwilen is one of the oldest settlements in Thurgau. Huttinvillare was first mentioned in a document in 817, and in 1256 Hüttwilen's own priest was named in a document from the Feldbach monastery. Archaeological finds show a first chapel from the 13th century, which is said to have been dedicated to St. Michael , St. Pankraz and St. Margaret . Around 1450 this chapel was enlarged. Remains of frescoes have been preserved from the pre-Reformation period, which were transferred to the new building of the Catholic Church in 1965. In the Middle Ages , the church set of Hüttwilen was awarded by the Bishop of Augsburg , but was transferred to Ittingen Monastery for the first time in 1466 and from 1622 onwards .

In 1524 the parsonage , in which a monk from the Ittingen monastery lived, was looted during the " Ittingen storm" . Shortly afterwards, a Protestant clergyman moved into the village, which had become mostly Protestant. From 1551 he was also responsible for Uesslingen . From 1551 the church of Hüttwilen was used equally . In 1654 the Hüttwiler enlarged their church. Ittingen Monastery provided a clergyman in Hüttwilen until 1843, from then on the parish elected its clergy itself. In 1856–1859, the Frauenfeld architect Johann Joachim Brenner redesigned the church one last time. With the new construction of the Protestant Church in 1963 and the Catholic Church in 1966, the equal relationship was dissolved. The old village church was demolished in 1964 because the new Catholic church was being built.

Building description

Architect Adolf Kellermüller from Winterthur built the Protestant church as a simple, light tent church with a free-standing campanile . The tower hides a four-part bell in the tone sequence e '- g sharp' - h '- c sharp'. It is coordinated with the bells of the Catholic Church in Hüttwilen. The baptismal font from 1661, which is placed at the church entrance, comes from the parity church . The glass windows were made by Jacques Schedler (1927–1989), who lived in neighboring Warth. A simple cross on the south wall of the church, a pulpit and a communion table , all made of light wood, complete the furnishings of the church.

organ

Because the Protestant congregation was only able to share in the costs of the organ in the parity-based predecessor church from 1913, an instrument was created from the registers of the Catholic predecessor organ , which the company Orgelbau Kuhn , Männedorf runs as Opus 419 and was placed on the gallery of the parity-based church. For the new construction of the Protestant church, the company Kuhn was again commissioned, which created a modern-looking organ case that takes up the tent construction of the church roof.
