Church in Melbach

The evangelical church in Melbach stands in the place of a previous building on the highest point of the historical place.

history

The previous church, consecrated to St. James the Elder , and the current church building stood north of the " Armenruhe " farm . Pilgrims on the Way of St. James could spend the night here. Another Wetterau Jakobuskirche can be found in Ockstadt .

A subsidiary church was Weckesheim . Weckesheim became a branch of Wölfersheim during the Reformation and is today connected with Beienheim through the parish .

In 1702 a new church order was introduced by Messrs Carben.

In the 18th century, after a change in local rule, conflicts arose between the Catholic local rulers and the Protestant population.

In 1816 Pastor Görtz pushed through the building of a new church after many years of conflict with his community. In addition, the community provided haulage services to transport building materials from the secularized Arnsburg monastery and the Nieder-Ilbenstadt women's monastery .

Furnishing

The original equipment of the church in the classical style is still present.

In the church there are four paintings of a John the Baptist cycle from the Nieder-Ilbenstadt convent.

Others

The ev. Community center was built north of the church next to the former school. The historic rectory stands southeast of the church and was extensively renovated by the Wölfersheim community in 2015.
