Archangelsk Evangelist
The Archangelsk Evangelistary (Russian Архангельское Евангелие ) is an illuminated manuscript in Church Slavonic in Cyrillic script . It was possibly written around Novgorod in 1092 and is the fourth oldest known East Slavic book. Since 1997 it has been part of the UNESCO World Document Heritage . Today it is in the Russian State Library in Moscow (f. 178, no. 1666).
The early history of the manuscript and its fate are unknown. A farmer from Arkhangelsk brought them to Moscow in 1876. The manuscript is in a satisfactory condition. The ink and cinnabar paint are partially peeled off, but the parchment pages do not show any traces of dirt or water. A facsimile edition of 100 copies was issued in 1912 by the Rumjancev Museum in Moscow for the examination by specialists. A scientific edition followed in 1997.
