Codex Suprasliensis

The Codex Suprasliensis is a manuscript in the Old Church Slavonic language in Cyrillic script . It probably dates from the early 11th century from the north-eastern Bulgarian Empire ( School of Preslav ).

It contains the incomplete text of a menaeon for the month of March with 24 lives of saints, 23 homilies and a prayer, most of which are said to have been written by John Chrysostom . The codex consists of 285 parchment leaves in the format 33 × 25 cm and is the most extensive surviving manuscript in the Old Church Slavonic language.

The Codex Suprasliensis has been part of the UNESCO World Document Heritage for Poland , Slovenia and Russia since 2007 .

In 1823 the manuscript was found in the monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Supraśl in the Russian Empire by the Slavist Michał Bobrowski. Today there are 151 sheets in the Polish National Library in Warsaw , call number BN BOZ 201, 118 sheets in the Slovenian National and University Library in Ljubljana , call number Cod. Kop. 2, and 16 sheets in the Russian National Library in St. Petersburg , call number Q perg . I. 72.
