Evangelistary of Turow

The Turow Evangelistary is a manuscript in Old Church Slavonic from the 11th century. It is the oldest manuscript found in what is now Belarus .

It contains text sections ( pericopes ) from the Gospels of the New Testament for liturgical reading. There are 10 sheets of parchment in the format 22.2 × 17.8 cm, which are written in brown ink in Cyrillic script in 17 to 18 lines. The initials are decorated with red, green and blue inks.

Two notes from 1508 and 1513 report that the manuscript was given by Grand Hetman Konstantin Ostroschski to the Church of the Transfiguration in Turow (Turau).

The leaves were discovered in Turau in 1865. Today they are in the library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in Vilnius .
