Evarist Adam Weber

Evarist Adam Weber (born November 27, 1887 in Aachen , † November 25, 1968 in Dießen am Ammersee ) was a German painter, graphic artist, illustrator and craftsman. With his early works he is attributed to the Rhenish Expressionists , worked as a war painter during World War I and belongs to the group of the lost generation .

Life

Evarist Adam Weber studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , traveled to Belgium, France and Italy after completing his studies in 1910 and settled in Munich and later in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

In 1918 he became a co-owner of the artisan workshops Weber-Heubach. His works have been published in the magazine "Die Sichel", among others. Weber based his work on expressionist forms of expression and made a number of woodcuts. His role model was Paul Cézanne . Weber received the Silver State Medal in Salzburg and the Golden Medal in Vienna.

The native of Aachen is counted among the Rhenish Expressionists with his earlier works and is assigned to the group of the lost generation . The missing generation refers to those artists who have been forgotten in Germany for a long time and were not rediscovered until the 1980s. Art historian Rainer Zimmermann also counts these artists as expressive realists .

In 1953 a special exhibition with works by Weber took place in the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum in Aachen .

Works

The work Two Men on the Mountain Top by Evarist Adam Weber was created during his work as a war painter during the First World War. It consists of a woodcut on structured wove paper, signed and dated from 1919. The depiction of the work is 14.1 × 18.2 cm on a sheet size of 42.3 × 26.5 cm.
