Everyday (video)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Everyday is a web video by American photographer Noah Kalina .

content

Kalina began taking photos of herself daily on January 11, 2000 at the age of 19. Kalina can be seen completely emotionless in the center of every single photo. Originally intended as a photo project, Kalina, spurred on by a similar video by Ahree Lee, decided to produce a video. The video in its original version contains self-portraits created by Kalina daily over six years, which can be viewed one after the other in chronological order, whereby one second in the video contains six images. The video is musically accompanied in the background with the piano piece of the same name by Carly Comando .

In the meantime, Kalina has created an updated version that spans a total of 12.5 years. On January 13th, 2020 the video "Noah takes a photo of himself every day for 20 years" was released.

effect

Kalina uploaded the video to Vimeo on August 8, 2006 and to YouTube on August 27, 2006 , and later, Everyday was featured on VH1 in Web Junk 20 and as a commercial for Time Warner Cable's Roadrunner service . In the next few years, Everyday was viewed around 25 million times on YouTube alone (as of July 2013).

In an article in the New York Times , William A. Ewing, director of the Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne, was quoted as saying:

"Noah's video represents a phenomenal amplification not just in what he produced and how he did it, but how many people touched the piece in such a short period of time. There is nothing comparable in the history of photography. "

Everyday is now part of the permanent collection of the Austin Museum of Art . The video was also part of the exhibition "The Evolution of the Digital Portrait" in the Chelsea Art Galleries in New York.

In The Simpsons episode " Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind " is to see a parody of Kalina's video. In this parody, 39 years of Homer Simpson's life are presented to the same background melody. There were disagreements between the producers of the Simpsons and Carly Comando, because no royalties were paid for the use of the music she composed. In September 2008, the episode won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program and Carly Comando was honored for her contribution to it.
