Ewald Thiel (born August 12, 1855 in Kamanten / East Prussia ; † before 1939 ) was a German painter and illustrator.

Thiel studied at the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin and since April 30, 1878 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich . After graduating, he settled in Berlin-Halensee .

Thiel supplied printing templates to illustrated magazines, mainly to “ Die Gartenlaube ” and youth magazines of the Union Deutsche Verlagsgesellschaft in Stuttgart .

He illustrated books for young people by Thomas Mayne Reid and Carl Falkenhorst . Ewald Thiel also created 104 wood engravings for Karl May's youth stories " Der Schatz im Silbersee " and " Das Vermächtnis des Inka ", which appeared from 1890 to 1892 in the journals of the Guten Kameraden publishing house as well as in Swedish and Dutch book editions.
