Excantation is a funeral doom band that has been active since 2017 .

history

Texans Ryan Wilson from The Howling Void and Shane Elwell from In Oblivion founded Excantation as a joint funeral doom project. The San Antonio- based project debuted in 2017, the year it was founded, with a single and a self-published album. The duo was then offered the professional release of the debut by GS Productions . In addition to this debut A Somber Endeavor , GS Productions released the second studio album Pilgrimage of the Imperator in 2018 . In the following year, a split EP by Excantation and The Howling Void was released, also in cooperation with the Russian label . The releases received little attention, but Nick Harkins ' Pilgrimage of the Imperator was praised as "a deep, powerful expression of Funeral Doom."

style

The music played by Excantation is described by the webzine Doom-Metal.com as "super-slow, super-heavy" and at the same time melodic variant of Funeral Doom. In the meantime, reference is made to the Mornful Congregation for a comparative comparison . The music is categorized as "dirty soundscapes" and described as particularly dark and cold. Harkins tries to describe attributes such as crushing, monolithic to the effect. The tempo of the music is significantly reduced, the guitar droning is distorted, the extensively used synthesizers are perceived as melancholy, while the guttural singing is described both as “hard” and as an expression of “wounded feelings and endless complaints”.
